Grayston Preparatory School hosts annual biathlon

Parents and learners of Grayston Preparatory School display their skills during the annual biathlon event which was established to help the school raise funds for charity.

Just after their second fundraising initiative, the Glow Part for Valentine’s Day, Grayston Preparatory School organised its annual biathlon which was hosted at the school on March 10.

Ranging from Grade 000 to Grade 7, learners competed against each other in various events. From running to swimming, learners displayed their strengths and weaknesses to ensure their place on the podium.

“This is part of our fundraising event of the year which is put on by the Grade 7s. In the year, we host various fundraising drives to raise money. The majority of the money collected from the tuck shop sales goes to charity and we also leave a gift to the school every year,” said Lara de Jong who is the Grade 7 fundraising committee chairperson.

This year’s gift to the school will be a piping system powered by Jojo tanks which will be connected to the toilets and the wash basins in case of a water outage in Sandton.

Despite the main event being the Grade 7’s showing participants what they got, everyone was waiting for the last event which featured the parents and teachers competing in the biathlon. Even though there was a first, second and third place winner, everyone on that day was considered a winner for showing their support towards the school’s initiative.
