Trio crimes increase in Bramley

The police ministry is fast tracking pieces of legislation aimed at closing gaps that are hampering on policing and laws that bolster police work. One such example is the amendment of the SAPS Act, to strengthen the functioning of Community Policing Forums (CPFs).

Gauteng released its third-quarter crime statistics for the period of October to December 2022/2023.

The Gazette has highlighted areas of interest for local readers.

Bramley only featured once in the statistics, placing 25th in Gauteng for trio crime incidents. These crimes include carjacking, robbery at residential premises, and robbery at non-residential premises.

The station recorded 89 incidents of trio crimes over the period, indicating a 32% increase from last year. Another station that featured once in the statistics was Sandringham, placing 23rd in the province for carjackings with 43 incidents this year with a -10% decrease from last year.

Sandton Police Station placed third in Gauteng for commercial crimes with 306 incidents over the recent period showing a -2% decrease from the last year. Sandton also placed 20th in the province for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs with 84 incidents showing a 57% increase from the previous year.

The Minister of Police Bheki Cele concluded the released crime figures show police pushed back on criminality, through visible policing and disruptive operations.

“The more boots on the ground was not only a slogan, but their impact was also felt and starting to make a difference in our communities. A community-centered approach in the prevention and combating of crime will yield better results.”
