Reach for Recovery share latest project to help survivors of breast cancer

Stephnè Jacobs of the Reach for Recovery states that their ditto project will regain the confidence of breast cancer survivors.

During the annual ‘power is pink’ campaign at Truffles Mushroom Park on February 2, Stephnè Jacobs, chairperson board of management of Reach to Recovery shared news of their latest project known as Ditto.

According to Jacobs, the name of the project is derived from the Italian word ‘dito’ which means same as before. The project focuses on the construction of breast prosthesis for the survivors of breast cancer across South Africa.

“We have given it this name because we want the survivors to feel and look the same as she did before her breast was removed. We started this project back in 2011 with the help of the South African Mushroom Farmers’ Association and Pick and Pay by formally offering survivors breast prosthesis,” said Jacobs.

The representative of the organisation added that the majority of breast cancer survivors are usually faced with financial challenges in the open market as the products cost a lot. She addressed the solution for those faced with the problem.

“If an individual can come to one of our advisory clinics and she can be presented with this gift of hope that costs nothing. We just want to see more women smile and be more confident with themselves and their bodies,” concluded Jacobs on the ditto project.
