St David’s Inanda hosts water polo festival

Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each.

St David’s Marist Inanda has a proud sporting tradition that has been blooming over the years.

With both their emphasis on striving for excellence and ensuring maximum participation in sports for their boys, the school hosted their St David’s festival from October 26 to 29.

Nick Clogg, the prep headmaster, welcomed all the players and families to their school.

Addressing attendees at the Water Polo Festival, he said, “This festival provides a wonderful opportunity to rekindle past friendships and to make new friends.”

He added that it is very likely that one’s love of these games will make sure that they cross paths with each other in the future.

“My sincere thanks to all who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this festival possible, especially our water polo director, Mr Grant Ramsey.”

Watching the St David’s Marist Inanda and Jeppe High School boys U14s battle and give their all for a win was one of the highlights for attendees and players alike.

According to the coach of St David’s, Matthew Orr, the boys did their best and showed improvement from the last games they had.

“Today is day 2 of the water polo tournaments, and our boys just played in a nail-biting 4–1 loss to the Jeppe boys. I noticed how good our guys played; they have grown from our previous games.”

He then congratulated the Jeppe High School boys for their win.

Team captain Giorgio Ferreira added, “Even though we lost, we brought our best to the pool, and I hope next time we win the game.”

Giorgio highlighted that he is proud of his teammates and could not wait for their second game later on.

Jeppe High School water polo coach Ron Sileno said his boys played exceptionally well.

“We just finished playing against St David’s. The boys played as a team, and that is the thing we are trying to build—for our players to play as a team rather than individuals.”

Sileno elaborated that this is their key to success, and the team has been getting better as the players have been improving and involving themselves this season.
