The procession began at the Bryanston Methodist Church in a well-attended service. Magubane’s service was attended by President Cyril Ramaphosa, former president Thabo Mbeki, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lusufi, Minister Zizi Kodwa, and theatremaker Dr John Kani among the delegates. Veteran journalist Phil Molefe was the programme director at the farewell ceremony for the legendary journalist.

Watch:

Molefe remembered how Magubane, under the apartheid regime, had been detained and tortured, arrested on numerous occasions, and exiled following his home becoming petrol-bombed in those painful years of oppression.
