A successful blood drive and bone marrow donor initiative in Sandton

Crawford International Sandton College made a difference and inspired a positive change in the world by donating blood.

Crawford International Sandton College recently organised a groundbreaking event that not only showcased the unity and compassion of their learners but also saved numerous lives in the process.

Through a meticulously planned Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Donor Initiative, they demonstrated the power of collective action in making a profound impact on the community.

In partnership with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), the school hosted its first blood drive in 2024.

This event encouraged learners and staff to enrol in the bone marrow donor registry with the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR).

According to Nadia Cooke, the school’s communication person, this blood drive was the most successful at the school, with an outstanding 48 units of blood collected.

“Our donors included 16 first-time donors, 11 staff members, and nine new bone marrow donor registrations.”

Cooke added after a very slow week of blood donations for SANBS, they were happy and grateful for their contribution to the blood supplies.

“We are exceptionally proud of all our learners and staff who made the selfless effort to donate blood and join the registry, which could very well save someone’s life in the future.”

She concluded by thanking SANBS and SABMR for their professional and caring service to all their participants, especially those first-time donors who were very nervous.
