How about trained buddies to walk your dogs in Sandton?

First cohort of professional dog walkers and handlers graduate in Sandton.

The first group to complete the My Dog Buddy dog walking and training course was hosted at the Field and Study Centre on March 9.

Created by digital innovator Lebohang Sekoto, the training ran from February 9 to 10 and attendees did theoretical and practical training to certify them as trained dog walkers.

Graduating member Nosipho Twala expressed that her love for dogs originated when she felt the heartbreak of her dog Jackson’s death.

Twala reflected on the training opportunity, and what she gained from the experience.

“The first day was theoretical; we had a dog expert teach us all about dogs,” Twala said. “The second day, we went to a dog shelter and we were physically trained on how to walk dogs.”
Sekoto said, “This is one of the few technology-driven pet service start-up businesses.
“The pet industry in South Africa presented a natural growth opportunity, as the industry is still highly traditional, hence, let the story of My Dog Buddy inspire you. It’s a testament to what happens when passion meets innovation.”

Her journey towards creating an opportunity in the technology space has paid off through the app and training opportunity innovation, and Sekoto advocates for young women across South Africa to challenge themselves by introducing technological advantages to previously analogue professional fields.

“As young women in entrepreneurship, you stand on the edge of a unique era where technology enables you to transcend geographical, societal, and economic barriers. Embrace technology, reimagine the traditional, and let your innovations declare, loudly and proudly, that the future is not only coming – it’s being shaped by your hands.”
