Rivonia community initiative to transform public spaces

Rivonia's renewed vision is led by the Excellerate Managed Services and the property owners to lead in urban revitalisation efforts.

In a remarkable display of grassroots collaboration, Excellerate Managed Services and the community of Rivonia have launched an ambitious urban management initiative aimed at revitalising their public spaces.

Spearheaded by proactive property owners, this initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant neighbourhood.

At the heart of this endeavour is a collective effort to reclaim Rivonia’s public spaces through cleaning, maintenance, landscaping, and security measures.

Recognising the importance of communal ownership and responsibility, EMS and property owners have rallied together to invest their time, resources, and expertise for the betterment of their community.

Rorisang Sojane, the precinct manager, said, “We believe that by taking proactive steps to enhance the surroundings, we can create a more inviting and inclusive environment for all residents and visitors in Rivonia.”

Sojane added that their goal is to instil a sense of pride and ownership in Rivonia, ensuring that it remains a desirable place to live, work, and play.

“Our focus areas are between De La Rey Road, 7th Avenue, Mutual Road, Wessels Road, and 12th Avenue.”

He explained that the scope of the initiative is vast, encompassing various aspects of urban management; it can include sweeping sidewalks and street edges, planting flowers, cleaning out tree wells, repairing infrastructure, and removing illegal posters and stickers, among others.

“The initiative has already garnered some support and admiration from local authorities, businesses, and residents alike. With plans for expansion and continued engagement, Rivonia is setting a shining example of what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared vision for positive change.”

Sojane highlighted that they are thrilled to see such enthusiasm and dedication from fellow community members and are hoping many can join in this for them to achieve remarkable transformations and create a legacy of sustainability and community empowerment.

“One of our long-term goals for the initiative is the safety and security plan. The main issues facing RVID include vagrants, drug sellers and users, and prostitutes. A coordinated effort is required between 24/7, SAPS, and JMPD.

He stated that increasing the visible presence of 24/7 security at night will be the best-achieved goal, as will making it safe to walk from De la Rey to Rivonia Boulevard at 22:00 without fear.
