Potholes persist on 10th Road in Kew as JRA delays full resurfacing
The Johannesburg Roads Agency promised to fix potholes on 10th Road in Kew by July 4, but days later, the work is still unfinished, leaving residents concerned about the city’s maintenance efforts.
Despite assurances from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) that pothole repairs on 10th Road in Kew would be completed by July 4, residents and motorists are still navigating damaged roads three days later.
The agency had scheduled the work from June 30 to July 4 to address the numerous hazards caused by potholes, which pose risks to vehicles and pedestrians alike.

However, as of July 7, the repairs remain incomplete. JRA only removed the tie road sections where the potholes were located, but full resurfacing or filling has yet to be carried out.
This partial work has left the road in a compromised state, continuing to threaten safety and disrupt traffic flow.
Residents are expressing their concerns about the delay, questioning the reasons behind the incomplete work and seeking clarity on when the repairs will be fully addressed.
Community members are also worried that prolonged neglect could lead to further deterioration of the road.
Sandile Nzama, a taxi driver, expressed his frustration. “I was expecting the potholes to be fixed as promised, but it’s still the same. It’s dangerous driving over these damaged parts, it not only causes discomfort to passengers but also damages our cars.”
Resident Thandi Nkosi, who uses the road day in day out, said, “It’s disappointing, we rely on these repairs for our safety. The delay is causing inconvenience and making us lose confidence in the city’s maintenance efforts.
The Sandton Chronicle has reached out to JRA regarding the cause of the delay, and updates will be provided once the information becomes available.
