High-impact service delivery drive in Region E

Even without Mayor Dada Morero, Johannesburg’s high-impact service delivery drive brought visible progress to Sandton and surrounding areas.

The City of Johannesburg’s much-anticipated high-impact accelerated service delivery programme went ahead in Region E on August 19, even though Executive Mayor Dada Morero was unable to attend due to a family emergency.

Stepping in for the mayor, councillor Sithembiso Zungu, the ANC Chief Whip, led the programme through various Sandton areas, ensuring the day’s work went ahead without disruption.

Despite the absence of Morero, the initiative delivered notable progress in addressing some of the region’s most pressing service delivery challenges.

In Sandown, Ward 91 and 103, officials inspected road repairs, following major pipe bursts, and checked on progress with the Rea Vaya bus rapid transit infrastructure.

At the Sandton Gautrain taxi rank, in Ward 103, attention was given to safety, congestion, and infrastructure problems that have long frustrated commuters.

In Rivonia and Gallo Manor, in Ward 106, Zungu and city officials met with Rivonia Wide Residents Association members, concerned about the surge in informal trading, as well as conducted a site inspection of the much-delayed bridge project.

Zungu said the day’s success shows that the city was committed to responding directly to community needs. “Even in the mayor’s absence, this programme proves that service delivery remains a priority for Johannesburg. People’s daily struggles, with roads, infrastructure, and trading spaces, are being taken seriously.”

The operation, which targeted multiple wards across Region E, is part of the city’s wider push to accelerate service delivery in critical areas.

Residents and community stakeholders expressed cautious optimism that the city’s focused intervention would bring long-term improvements.
