Peregrine Capital partners with Rugby Centurions Foundation to celebrate milestone of 100

Reaching 100 is a defining milestone that resonates universally, whether in sport, life, or investment.

Peregrine Capital, South Africa’s oldest hedge fund manager, has announced a partnership with the Rugby Centurions Foundation, uniting two worlds where the number 100 defines greatness.

At the launch in Sandton on August 13, Peregrine Capital CEO Jacques Conradie said the milestone reflects more than just numbers. “Getting from 1 to 100 takes a lot. Long-term focus, passion, consistency, tenacity, and a smart approach.”

The Rugby Centurions Foundation honours players who have achieved 100 or more international test caps, a feat demanding years of resilience and top-level performance.

Similarly, Peregrine Capital has reached its century in investment, becoming the first South African fund manager to deliver 100-fold returns to investors.

Since its inception in 2000, Peregrine’s flagship high growth fund has produced an extraordinary 18.815% return, turning R1 million into over R180 million.

It’s pure hedge fund, launched in 1998, has also joined the exclusive 100x club, never recording a negative year.

“Much like the centurions,” Conradie continued, “who represent the pinnacle of athletic achievement with 100+ international test caps, Peregrine Capital’s flagship funds have surpassed the 100x milestone in investment returns, creating a powerful bond between these two extraordinary journeys.”

Former Springbok captain John Smit, himself a centurion, echoed the sentiment. “The number 100 represents a clear threshold, and very few achieve it. It implies resilience, focus, professionalism, consistency, passion, discipline, and determination. We saw these shared values reflected in Peregrine Capital, which is why this partnership made sense to us.”

The collaboration will support causes backed by the centurions, including the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund, which assists seriously injured rugby players. Exclusive events, campaigns, and content are planned to highlight the shared values of endurance, performance, and determination.

“Reaching 100 is a milestone that defines careers, creates legends, and commands respect,” Conradie concluded. “It’s not just a sign of success; it represents significance.”
