24SumMore finals bring joy and confidence back into maths

A lively competition at Peregrine Capital’s Sandton offices has shown that when maths becomes a game, confidence follows, and young learners rise to the challenge.

The event marked the end of a successful pilot, which included 54 Gauteng primary schools, all working to make maths fun, interactive, and confidence-boosting for learners.

Based on the 24 Game format, the competition rewards speed, creativity, and strategic thinking. Classrooms became places of discovery and teamwork, with both teachers and learners embracing the challenge.

According to Peregrine Capital CEO Jacques Conradie, a former national maths champion, they are bringing the fun back into maths. “When kids enjoy maths, they gain confidence. That confidence becomes the foundation for excellence.”

The top three winners were:

  • 1st – Olwethu Ndebele (Eastleigh Primary School),
  • 2nd – Talea Papa (Gibson Pillay Learning Academy), and
  • 3rd – Kemoratile Nyundu (Eastleigh Primary School).

Learners won investment accounts valued between R10 000 and R25 000, with all finalists receiving R5 000 each. Their schools were also rewarded, with one outstanding teacher receiving an iPad. The investment prizes aim to spark early interest in financial literacy.

The success of the pilot has paved the way for a national rollout in 2026, giving learners across South Africa the chance to experience maths in a new, exciting way.

“What we have seen in the pilot has been extraordinary,” concluded Conradie. “The passion and joy from learners and teachers alike is just the beginning. We look forward to taking this fun, competitive format nationwide.”
