Curro Rivonia closes 2025 with top results and bold plans for 2026

With a 100% IEB pass rate, international representation in chess, and the launch of its new Music, Arts, Drama, and Dance Centre on the horizon, Curro Rivonia ends the year on a high note of pride and progress.

As we near the end of another successful school year, Curro Rivonia is celebrating a year defined by academic distinction, community engagement, and a growing culture of creativity.

Under the leadership of executive head Dumisani Kunene, the school has continued to build a reputation for balancing excellence in the classroom with a strong sense of social responsibility.

One of the year’s most memorable moments came during Mandela Day, July 18, when the entire school community took part in the 67 Minutes for Mandela initiative.

Learners, parents, and staff joined forces to donate, make, and deliver 1 367 sandwiches to a primary school in Alexandra. The initiative not only honoured Nelson Mandela’s legacy but also underscored the school’s ethos of empathy and service.

“The Mandela Day project reminded us that education is not just about grades, it’s about humanity,” said Kunene. Seeing our learners give their time and energy to make a real difference was deeply inspiring.”

Curro Rivonia’s Class of 2024 achieved exceptional results, earning a 100% IEB pass rate, with 95% of learners qualifying for bachelor’s degree studies.

The class achieved six A aggregates and 58 subject distinctions, while the school’s top learner scored a perfect 100% in mathematics, placing them among the top 1% nationally.

“These outcomes reflect the hard work and determination of our learners, supported by a passionate and skilled teaching team. We’re immensely proud of what they’ve accomplished.”

Academic success was only part of Curro Rivonia’s story this year. Grade 10 learner Kirthan Naidoo earned the honour of representing Curro Rivonia and South Africa on the international stage at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the African Youth Chess Championship 2025 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

“Kirthan’s achievement shows how talent and dedication can open global opportunities. He embodies the spirit of curiosity and perseverance that we encourage in all our learners.”

In the Preschool and Primary School, the emphasis was on creativity and cultural exploration. The colourful Around the World Fashion Show saw young learners researching different countries and presenting traditional attire on the runway, a joyful celebration of global diversity.

Another highlight was Grandparents’ Day, a heartwarming event that brought families together across generations. Some grandparents travelled from other provinces to share in a morning of performances, laughter, and connection.

With an eye on 2026, Curro Rivonia is preparing to open its brand-new M.A.D.D Centre, a hub for Music, Arts, Drama, and Dance. The facility is expected to become a cornerstone of the school’s cultural life, offering learners new opportunities for artistic expression and performance excellence.

“The M.A.D.D Centre represents our ongoing commitment to holistic education. We want our learners to develop intellectually, emotionally, and creatively, to think, feel, and express themselves with confidence.”

As we head into 2026, Curro Rivonia is taking time to thank its parents, learners, and staff for their support throughout the year. Kunene expressed optimism for the year ahead and confidence in the school’s next group of matrics.

“Our success is built on partnership. To our Class of 2025, we wish you every success in your final exams. We look forward to celebrating your achievements in 2026.”
