The morning was a particularly special one for the Foundation Phase team, who were ready to welcome the children into a year known for remarkable growth and development.

Robyn Jakins, Deputy Head of the Foundation Phase and a full-time Grade 1 teacher at Brescia House School, described the morning as joyful and full of emotion.
“It’s been a very exciting morning already, with photos and lots of hugs and kisses from the moms and dads,” she said.

“There have been many goodbyes and wishes of ‘have a lovely day’, and now we’re just looking forward to everything that we’re going to be learning this year.”

Grade 1 is a pivotal year in a child’s schooling journey, marking the transition into more formal learning.
According to Jakins, it’s also one of the most rewarding years to teach. “Grade 1 is so exciting because the children all learn to read. We also do all the basic maths and explore many other subjects along the way. It’s always a year of growth and we are looking forward to it.”
