Stepfather arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

Bramley Police thanks the community for alerting them rather than resorting to mob justice.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and detained by the Bramley Police for suspected sexual assault.

According to Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, on April 11, the police were called to the Setjwetla Informal Settlement in Marlboro, where they found community members busy questioning the suspect regarding the alleged crime.

“The suspect is the stepfather of the victim, a 10-year-old girl. It is believed that the crime was perpetrated on April 10, after the girl’s mother left her with him.”

Mogodi added that it’s believed that this is not the first time the suspect has sexually abused the young girl.

“The suspect will appear in court soon and Bramley SAPS management would like to thank the community members for their quick intervention, particularly for the fact that they did not resort to mob justice but instead alerted the police.”
