Calling Joburg Water to remove the rubble on Vickie Avenue

Will Joburg Water pull through for the Sandton residents regarding the road hazards they are facing?

Residents who stay close and use Vickie Avenue in Sandton have now run out of patience with Joburg Water.

On Twitter, ReshDG said two months ago, a sewage leak on Vickie Avenue was fixed, but the concrete rubble from the repair was left blocking a lane.

ReshDG pointed out that the rubble has been a road hazard to road users and sought to ask why it was left there in the first place.

Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackelford said, “I was not aware of this; no residents communicated this to me. I will take a drive past and escalate it.”

She added that if residents in her ward areas are having problems, they can freely contact her about it.

On August 8, the Sandton Chronicle sent an email query to Joburg Water, asking why they left the rubble behind after the job was done; if they could explain to the residents the process they follow when they are done fixing – should the rubble be left behind or not – when are they going to remove the rubble, as it is a road hazard.

The deadline that was posed for the response from the entity was on August 11 at 10:00 in the morning,

Nolwazi Dhlamini, Joburg Water’s spokesperson, replied on August 10 at 13:41, saying, “Your query has been forwarded to the relevant depot. Your deadline is noted, and we will try our best to meet it; however, please note that it may take over 48 hours to get a response. As soon as we receive feedback from the depot, we will forward it to you.”

A follow-up email was sent on August 14, and Dhlamini replied, “I will give you feedback as soon as they provide it and apologies for the delay.”
