According to principal Sonette van Loggerenberg, the school annually hosts a talent show to celebrate the talents of its learners. Van Loggerenberg said Montrose Has Got Talent was the school’s first talent show since Covid-19 struck.

“We are excited to have our Montrose talent show again this year,” said Van Loggerenberg. “We have two professional judges who are going to adjudicate.”

The talent judges were singer-songwriter Just Mia, and entertainment industry stalwart Gemma Marinus. Van Loggerenberg could not hide the pride she felt for her learners, even had she tried.

“We have so many talented young people who auditioned, who are going to be performing in the show,” Van Loggerenberg said. “Earl B is going to open the show for us, which is very exciting.”

Earl B is the Johannesburg-based R&B singer-songwriter who opened the show with a soul-gratifying cover of Ed Sheeran’s hit song, Thinking out loud. The show was closed by a moving performance by Montrose primary alumna Mia Nupen, who is now a Grade 9 learner at St Stithians Girls’ College, followed by a harmonious performance by the school choir.

In between, 77 learners took to the stage, 33 learners performed solo acts and the rest displayed extraordinary teamwork in presenting their plethora of amazing talents.

Learners played the guitar, sang, danced, acted and performed stand-up comedy routines, and Montrose Has Got Talent was the perfect platform to showcase their diverse talents.
