Sandton-based palette-painting artist goes viral on Instagram

A mother of two thinks it is important to follow your passion and giving your all to make it work.

Loving what she does gives Danielle Rovetti the patience and inspiration to keep going and has helped her develop a strong work ethic and a determination to succeed.

The 45-year-old has been a full-time palette-painting artist for the last six years and studied art at school before going to work as a freelance graphic designer for many years, working on branding for small and large corporations.

Rovetti pointed out that six years ago, she decided to follow her heart and go back to her original love of painting.

“It took me a few years to create my technique of palette painting. For the first few years, I used other materials like concrete, raw canvas, and resin, which can all be seen in my earlier works.”

The artist added that Instagram has been an amazing marketing tool for her, especially for visual arts, as she recently posted an Instagram reel of her doing one of her palette strokes.

“At first, the video did nicely, with more views and likes than I had previously. But then, after a few days, the video picked up momentum; it went into the 100ks; then I couldn’t believe it hit one million views, and it didn’t stop until it hit 23 million views.”

Rovetti explained that she was unbelievably excited and since then has been lucky enough to have a few viral videos and have amazing followers, fans, and collectors from across the globe. She has also managed to deliver artwork to many wonderful countries.

She emphasised that being an artist can be the most fulfilling career in the world, but, as many artists and creative professionals will tell you, it can also be incredibly challenging.

“Building a client base, getting my art out to the public, mastering the materials I use, honing my skills, and learning how to sell are just some of the daily challenges I face. Furthermore, a career as an artist demands huge self-discipline, self-motivation, and the determination to keep going even on the days where self-doubt creeps in.”
