Bryanston parkrun celebrates a decade in existence.

The Bryanston east parkrun celebrated its 10th year anniversary.

Bryanston is one of the communities that can easily attract as many as 900 parkrunners to a single event as the community’s preferred mode of exercise.

Nobody can blame community members for having kept their community’s parkrun going for a decade when the Riverside venue is such a spectacular piece of land brimming with wonder: like a shoal in the spruit by the 4km marker populated by families of ducks, geese and the world of birdlife that calls Bryanston home.

The community celebrated the 10th anniversary of parkrun being a part of the standard Bryanston weekend package on January 27.

Parkrunner Avi Naidoo was proud to announce how successful the previous two weekends’ parkrun festivities have been in terms of attendance.

“Last week we were the fourth-largest parkrun in the world, we were [also] the second in South Africa,” Naidoo celebrated. “10 years just means 10 years of this community coming together, using the green spaces, and creating a healthy environment.”

Naidoo praised the community spirit that has fuelled the healthy lifestyles of residents who volunteer and work together to make the community’s weekly parkrun possible.

“This 10-year anniversary is about celebrating the people,” said Naidoo. “Most people who volunteer stay within the community. It’s all run by the community. It’s important to us to keep our greenbelt safe, and to be healthy.”
