Empower young minds with iPlug Yes’kolo educational campaign
Through bite-sized video lessons, Nestlé’s campaign is reshaping how young South African learners approach math, from fractions to exponents.
Nestlé Nespray is taking bold steps to tackle South Africa’s pressing education challenges by continuing its innovative iPlug Yes’kolo campaign.
With alarming statistics revealing that only 50% of South African learners reach Grade 12, the need for accessible and effective learning solutions is more urgent than ever, especially in critical subjects such as mathematics. This is according to a study conducted by the Centre for Development and Enterprise in 2023.
Through the iPlug Yes’kolo initiative, launched locally in 2023, Nestlé has reached more than five million South Africans, offering bite-sized video tutorials to learners in grades 4 to 7.

The campaign addresses the widespread struggle that many children face when it comes to mastering foundational maths concepts, particularly in communities such as Kew and its surrounding areas, where diverse family structures and varying access to resources create unique challenges.
In partnership with renowned educator Sandile Mathebula, better known as Maths-Son, the platform offers simple, easy-to-follow math tutorials, presented in under two minutes.
These videos, available for free online, focus on topics that are often stumbling blocks for young learners, including fractions, integers, and exponents.
They provide invaluable support for both learners and caregivers, particularly for parents in Sandton, where busy professionals often struggle to keep up with their children’s homework due to evolving teaching methods.

Mathebula said the response to the 2023 campaign had been overwhelming.
“Parents and learners have expressed how iPlug Yes’kolo has not only improved maths skills but also transformed attitudes towards learning in the home and classroom.”
He added as the 2024 edition of iPlug Yes’kolo kicked off this November, new learning videos will continue to empower learners across Sandton and the greater Johannesburg area, providing a crucial resource for families striving for educational success.
