Montrose Primary reflects on an incredible 2024
Montrose Primary School saw a series of academic, sport, and cultural triumphs in 2024, making it a banner year for the school and its students.
Montrose Primary School in Parkmore has enjoyed a year jam-packed with unforgettable moments and memories shared by the school’s community.
Reflecting on the year, which has now almost lapsed, the current principal, Sonnette Van Loggerenberg, remarked how 2024 has been a year for seeing the school’s champions excelling on the sports field, as well as in the cultural arena and academics.

“Academically, we saw quite a number of our leaners doing well in the South African Council for English Education (SACEE) national language challenge,” said Van Loggerenberg. “We also challenged our young mathematicians and entered them to do the Horizon Mathematics Competition, Divide and Conquer, and the SAMC/AMESA Mathematics Challenge. Again a lot of our learners performed well and placed high in the different competitions.”

In addition to academics, Montrose Primary School excelled by introducing e-sports to the school, a programme that has expanded from 40 learners in 2022 to approximately 140 in 2024.

“This year, we attained our highest achievement since the 2022 ComicCon by placing second,” Van Loggerenberg celebrated. “We also introduced Rocket League and are aiming for significant success at RAGE 2024 in both the Minecraft and Rocket League tournaments.”

The school also just concluded the U11 version of the Alfeco Dream Big Montrose Cricket and Netball tournament that ran over four weeks, converting the school into a netball and cricket themed carnival between October and November.

Thanking the community which supports the school, Van Loggerenberg concluded on a positive note on what to expect from the school over the coming year.
“2025 promises to be another exciting and eventful year as our young champions continue to challenge themselves, and achieve excellence without yielding.”
