Rand Water maintenance set to disrupt water supply in Sandton and Midrand regions

A scheduled 24-hour maintenance on Rand Water's Palmiet system from January 25 to 26, will result in low water pressure and potential outages for residents of Sandton and Midrand. Residents are urged to prepare in advance for the disruption.

Rand Water has announced an essential maintenance operation on its Palmiet system, which will significantly impact the water supply for residents in Johannesburg’s Sandton and Midrand regions from January 25 to 26.

The maintenance work is necessary to repair a leak in the O2 pipeline, which directly affects water delivery to areas relying on this crucial supply.

During the maintenance period, Rand Water will isolate the O2 pipeline, leading to low water pressure or even complete outages for affected customers.

The areas set to experience these disruptions include Sandton and several parts of Midrand, such as Klipfontein View, Allandale, President Park, Halfway House, and Diepsloot.

Residents are strongly encouraged to plan for the impending water disruption. Johannesburg Water advises storing sufficient water before the maintenance as well as exploring alternatives such as rainwater harvesting for non-potable uses.

In anticipation of the situation, Johannesburg Water will evaluate the need for alternative water supply measures.

Decisions regarding deploying roaming water tankers and placing stationary water tanks will be made in consultation with ward councillors from the affected areas.

Schools, clinics, senior citizens’ homes, and retirement facilities will receive priority for these alternative provisions. Businesses such as malls, hospitals, and medical centres are also advised to implement their contingency plans.

Beginning the week of January 13, Johannesburg Water will host councillor engagement sessions to inform the community about the upcoming maintenance. These sessions will ensure that residents have access to essential updates before and after the water supply interruption.

Therefore, residents are advised to stay informed and take the necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the maintenance work on their daily lives.
