Sandton’s own to talk about cybersecurity and internet governance in a TED Talk
As anticipation builds for Doreen's TED Talk, her journey from Sandton to the world stage serves as an inspiration to the future leaders.
Doreen Mokoena is set to make history this year, 2025 as she delivers her first-ever TED Talk on the global stage.
Sandton’s own is a recognised leader in cybersecurity and internet governance.
She said she will share her insights on building a secure, inclusive digital future during her talk titled “Guardians of the Digital Frontier: Shaping a Secure and Inclusive Internet.”

As the founder and CEO of Cybersec Clinique, established in 2020, Mokoena has been instrumental in shaping South Africa’s cybersecurity landscape.
“My company has become a key player in addressing critical cybersecurity challenges across industries like mining while driving digital transformation across the continent. With numerous accolades, including Entrepreneurship Education of the Year and Digital Transformation Partner of the Year, and solidified my reputation as a leader in Africa’s digital economy.”
Mokoena explained that her message is simple, the internet is a shared resource, and its security and inclusivity are fundamental to global progress.

“As leaders, we must build frameworks that ensure resilience and fairness in our digital ecosystems.”
She pointed out that her TED Talk will emphasise the need to protect the Domain Name System (DNS) the backbone of the internet and promote policies that serve all communities, especially marginalized ones.
“I will also spotlight my work empowering women in cybersecurity, particularly through the Women in Cybersecurity initiative I launched in Lesotho in 2024.”
Mokoena’s leadership extends beyond her business.
She has represented South Africa at global forums like ICANN, influencing policies on internet governance.
“My collaborations with South African universities to strengthen cybersecurity education have paved the way for future leaders in the field.”
