Redhill alumni win gold at Sustainathon
A team of Redhill School alumni has triumphed at the TCS South Africa Sustainathon 2024, with an innovative solar-powered cold chain solution aimed at revolutionizing the medical field.
A team of Redhill School alumni has won first place at the prestigious TCS South Africa Sustainathon 2024, held at the Stellenbosch Sustainability Institute.
The winning team – Talha Niazi (MBBCh – Wits), Christopher Blignaut (BBusSc – UCT), and Ethan Tilney (Elec Eng – NMU) – all from the Redhill Class of 2021, developed an innovative solar-powered cold chain storage solution to address energy challenges in the medical sector.
Drawing on their diverse academic backgrounds in medicine, business, and engineering, the team designed a groundbreaking solution that impressed a global panel of judges.

Their multidisciplinary approach highlighted the power of collaborative problem-solving and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world sustainability challenges.
