Kiran Moodley takes the spotlight in Seussical

Kiran Moodley, a Grade 6 learner at Crawford International Sandton, shared his experience of being involved in Seussical Jr. Kiran first became involved in the production after participating in two other shows at the People’s Theatre, Disney’s My Son Pinocchio and Aladdin.

According to him, he enjoyed performing and decided to audition for Seussical Jr, despite feeling nervous. “I had to sing, read lines, and learn a short choreography.”

In Seussical Jr, Kiran plays Jojo, a young boy with a wild imagination. He enjoys portraying Jojo because the character expresses his thoughts freely, and does not limit himself. However, Jojo also faces challenges when his imagination gets him into trouble. “Jojo learns to use his thoughts responsibly.”

Kiran said, the rehearsal process was intense, but he also had a lot of fun. “It taught me to embrace what I enjoy doing, and not worry about being shy.”

He explained that working with the cast and crew was also a rewarding experience for him. “They are professional actors, and I have learned a lot from them.”

For Kiran, one of the most important lessons from Seussical Jr is standing up for what you believe in and respecting others, even if they are different. “The show teaches about friendship and kindness, which is something we need more of in the world.”

As for opening night, Kiran was excited to take centre stage. “The first act began with my character, and I had to walk down the aisle with a spotlight on me. The audience was welcoming, and they made me feel comfortable.”

Kiran’s most memorable moments were performing the songs and dances, which were fun and interactive. “I think the audience will find them entertaining.”
