Event bolsters Johannesburg youth lead urban renewal movement ahead of G20 summit

Johannesburg’s youth are taking centre stage in a vibrant movement to reshape their city, harnessing creativity and collaboration to tell the story of urban renewal.

Hundreds of enthusiastic young content creators, filmmakers, and social media enthusiasts recently gathered at Hotel Sky in Sandton for a pivotal event dedicated to shaping Johannesburg’s future.

This assembly marked a significant step in a broader initiative aimed at empowering the city’s youth, and spotlighting its ongoing urban renewal efforts ahead of the G20 summit.

The gathering was hosted by a powerful collaboration between the International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) and Jozi My Jozi, a grassroots movement committed to revitalizing Johannesburg’s inner city.

Bringing together creative minds from across South Africa, the event provided a platform where young people could connect, share ideas, and develop stories that highlight the city’s transformation and resilience.

Supported by influential leaders from South Africa’s creative and business sectors, the initiative seeks to harness the energy and creativity of Johannesburg’s youth to craft compelling narratives through film, social media, and digital content.

Jozi My Jozi’s Dawn Robertson said: “Johannesburg is rich in creativity and cultural diversity. There are so many stories waiting to be told. With the G20 summit coming, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
