JMPD nabs two in Sandhurst cable theft bust

Vigilant JMPD officers conducting routine patrols in Sandhurst make a crucial arrest, disrupting cable theft in the area.

Two men were apprehended by Region E JMPD officers in Sandhurst on May 6.

The suspects were arrested near the intersection of Rivonia and Protea roads, on charges of malicious damage to property and the theft of cables.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said, “Our officers were on patrol, ensuring the safety and security of the Sandhurst community, when they encountered these two individuals. Their suspicious behaviour immediately drew the attention of the officers, and upon closer inspection, it became clear they were involved in illegal activity.”

Further investigation by the vigilant officers led to the apprehension of the suspects.
Fihla added that the suspects were taken into custody and detained at the Sandton Police Station for further processing and investigation.

Fihla emphasised the importance of such arrests in the ongoing fight against crime and the protection of vital infrastructure.

“These arrests highlight the dedication and vigilance of our JMPD officers in their commitment to combating crime and safeguarding essential services. Cable theft is a significant issue that disrupts communities and impacts our economy, and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.”
