SAPS is urgently searching for an African male suspect using the name John, connected to the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale in Johannesburg.
The suspect is believed to be driving a white Volkswagen Polo fitted with a cloned licence plate, LT 57 JG GP, which is registered to a Toyota Hilux.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe emphasised the urgency of the situation. “We are actively pursuing this suspect and are urging members of the public to be vigilant, especially women who may encounter this vehicle. Every effort is being made to ensure the safety of our communities.”

According to police investigations, Mongale was picked up from her residence in Athol, Sandton, at about 15:00 on May 25. She was driven through areas including Alexandra, Kew, and Lombardy West, where she was murdered and her body subsequently dumped.
“Some of her belongings, her phone and handbag, were discovered abandoned on 9th Road in Kew. Her body was found in Lombardy West less than two hours later, at approximately 16:50, with community assistance aiding the police in the swift recovery,” Mathe said.
Authorities suspect that the suspect may have had an accomplice during the incident, as investigations continue into the possibility that John was assisted by another individual.

Additionally, police are examining a similar case involving a woman found dumped in Katherine Street, Sandown, Sandton, on May 8.
In a recent case highlighting the ongoing threat to women, SAPS arrested a 24-year-old man last week for targeting women via fake Facebook profiles. The man, now in custody, appeared in the Bolobedu Magistrates’ Court on charges of kidnapping and rape after luring a 28-year-old woman to Limpopo under false pretences and repeatedly assaulting her. The victim was rescued at a filling station in Giyani.
Mathe urged women and the public to exercise caution. “We advise women to always inform friends or family of their whereabouts when meeting new acquaintances or going on dates. Avoid secluded areas and prefer public spaces for meetings.
