The once smooth and accessible 10th Road, Kew, has fallen into disrepair, with numerous potholes hampering safe travel and raising alarms among the local community.

Residents and commuters have expressed growing frustration over the deteriorating condition of the road, which now presents a significant hazard to motorists and residents alike.

A resident who asked not to be named said: “The potholes have become increasingly prominent over recent months, making driving hazardous and increasing the risk of vehicle damage.

“It’s becoming dangerous to drive or even walk along 10th Road. The potholes are deep and numerous. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.”

He added that pedestrians and cyclists also face dangers due to uneven surfaces and loose debris.

The situation has prompted many to call on authorities to expedite repairs and restore the road to a safe condition.

In response to concerns, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has confirmed that repairs have been scheduled.

JRA regional operations HOD Khayalethu Gqibitole said: “We are aware of the situation on 10th Road, Kew. The pothole repairs have been scheduled to take place during the week of June 30 to July 4, 2025.”
