The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton students walk for their mental health

In a powerful fusion of movement and mental health awareness, students from The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton campus came together for a 10km mental health walk, using nature, conversation, and community to take meaningful strides toward wellbeing.

Members of VC Cares, the student volunteer body, and the Sports Club Committee at The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton campus recently hosted a 10km mental health walk at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort.

The initiative aimed to emphasise the vital connection between physical activity and mental health, while also fostering a sense of unity among students.

The tranquil, scenic surroundings of one of South Africa’s most beloved botanical gardens offered the perfect setting for reflection, movement, and meaningful conversation.

VC Cares chairperson and Bachelor of Laws student Masego More said: “The mental health walk gave students the opportunity to challenge themselves and truly show up for their mental wellbeing. In doing so, we not only took steps towards personal healing, but formed new connections and friendships along the way.”

This initiative is part of an ongoing effort by the Sandton campus’ VC Cares and Sports Club Committees to build a culture where mental health is prioritised, and students feel supported, both inside and outside the classroom.
