Sandton water supply under pressure as reservoir levels decline

Joburg Water has urged residents to use water sparingly to help ease pressure on the system.

Residents across Sandton are facing widespread water supply challenges as Johannesburg Water confirmed that several reservoirs and towers in the area are operating at critically low levels.

In a statement issued on October 2 at 10:55, Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said the Sandton system is constrained but supplying fairly to adequately.

However, due to a burst on the supply line feeding Sandton, pressure across the network has dropped significantly, leaving many areas with low to no water supply.

“All reservoirs and direct feeds are declining, poor pressure to no water is expected,” Shabalala confirmed, adding that interventions such as throttling or overnight closures may be used to stabilise the system.
