Local CPF takes crime awareness to the community
The Sandton CPF, local security companies, and SAPS are stepping up efforts to fight crime through public awareness drives across shopping centres and fuel stations in the area.
The Sandton Community Police Forum (CPF) and Sandton SAPS hosted a community meet and greet on October 18, at Bryanston Shopping Centre and Hobart Grove Centre.
The event aimed to raise awareness about growing incidents of crime in local shopping centres and fuel stations, particularly theft out of motor vehicles and cellphone snatching.

According to Sandton CPF public relations officer Roshan Byjnal, the campaign seeks to strengthen ties between the community, SAPS, and private security companies.
“We have seen an increase in incidents across Sandton, and we want residents and business owners to be aware and vigilant. It’s not just about policing, it’s about engagement and information-sharing.”
He explained that the CPF, SAPS, and security companies have been working closely to address crime trends, adding that community reports have already led to several breakthroughs.

“Community information has been working wonders for us. When residents report suspicious activity, it helps us act faster and more effectively.”
Despite rainy weather, CPF members spent time inside the Bryanston shopping centre, speaking with store managers and customers about current crime patterns and how to stay alert.
Byjnal added that the CPF hopes to make these sessions a regular initiative across different Sandton areas to keep residents informed and involved.
