Sandton SPCA calls on community to help care for vulnerable animals

The Sandton SPCA is appealing to the public to support vulnerable animals through donations, supplies, and a simple boost to monthly debit orders, small acts that make a life-saving difference.

As the festive season brings warmth, celebration and generosity, it also highlights a harsher reality for countless animals who face neglect, abandonment and hardship during this time of year.

The Sandton SPCA is calling on its community to stand with them and ensure that compassion extends to animals who need help the most.

The organisation is welcoming a wide range of donations to support its charity shop, daily operations and the animals in its care.

These include clothing, homeware, toys, furniture, appliances, books, rainwear, plants, fly traps, cameras, exhibition materials, fans and any other usable items.

Practical essentials such as garbage bags, disinfectants, pet-safe cleaning products, animal food, blankets and veterinary supplies are also urgently needed.

In addition to once-off donations, the Sandton SPCA is encouraging supporters to make a simple yet powerful commitment this festive season: double-boosting their existing debit orders.

Sandton SPCA’s general manager, Stephen Maila, said, “Even a modest increase of R20, R50 or R100 can significantly strengthen the organisation’s inspectorate, expand education and outreach programmes, sustain the clinic and improve the daily lives of animals in our care.

“Our work depends deeply on the generosity of our community. This time of year brings joy for many people, but for animals, it can be a season of increased suffering. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us continue our work with strength and dignity.”

Maila added that monthly support is especially valuable.

“Stability is everything for an organisation like ours. When supporters commit to monthly contributions, it allows us to plan, respond quickly to cruelty cases, and ultimately save more lives.”

The Sandton SPCA is also appealing for support toward longer-term projects and dreams, including the expansion of its clinic, improvements to its charity and book shops, the development of an educational centre for animal welfare, and ongoing efforts to make its site a haven for all.

Prize donations such as vouchers, gift baskets and tickets are also welcome to support fundraising activities.

Donations can be delivered to 9th Street, Marlboro Gardens, or supporters can get in touch to discuss tailored donations or sponsorships.
