Crawford International Sandton top achiever advises Class of 2026 to work hard, but don’t forget to live

Justin Sher, Crawford International Sandton College Class of 2025 top achiever, says success in matric comes from consistency and discipline, but also from living a balanced life, and having a little fun.

As the Class of 2026 steps into their final school year, Justin Sher, a top achiever from Crawford International Sandton College’s Class of 2025, offers advice grounded in experience.

Sher completed matric with an overall average of 93.46%, but instead of focusing only on marks, he wants future matric learners to understand something deeper. “Live a balanced life. Make time for sport, activities, and extra-murals alongside academics. It actually improves your performance.”

He believes many learners think success requires sacrificing everything, including friendships and hobbies. His experience was different. During the final term, Sher studied for about five focused hours a day, but he also went to the gym regularly and continued playing cricket. “It wasn’t just sitting at a desk all day. Gym helped me stay disciplined and mentally fresh.”

Sher said consistency made the biggest difference in his results. His history mark improved to 96% in the final exams, up from his prelim results. “That improvement showed me how much the final stretch matters.”

He encourages the Class of 2026 to build confidence through preparation. “Confidence comes from knowing you’ve done the work. Work hard, but don’t forget to live.”
