The race began at 18:30 under cloudy skies outside the Wanderers Cricket Club entrance on Venues Street and concluded inside the club, where runners crossed the finish line to cheers from colleagues.

The popular event once again transformed the Melrose, Birdhaven, and Rosebank streets into a vibrant hub of corporate camaraderie, with thousands of participants representing companies from across Johannesburg.
This year marked the 21st edition of the corporate challenge in Johannesburg and forms part of a much larger international series that celebrates its 50th year this year.

JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge head of sports and entertainment marketing Kate Schoff said the event continues to play a special role in the global programme.
“This is the 21st running of the corporate challenge in Johannesburg, but it’s part of a larger worldwide series, which is the 50th year running of the series. We host the corporate challenge in 16 different markets globally, and this, the Johannesburg event always kicks off the series on an annual basis.”

Schoff, who is based in New York, attended the Johannesburg race for the first time this year and praised the atmosphere and enthusiasm of participants.
“The turnout. The spirit is amazing. This is actually my first time at the Johannesburg race, and the energy on site, the participation, the people, everything is just full of joy.

“This challenge is a fantastic way for employees to get out of their office and enjoy an outdoor event together to continue to build a sort of corporate camaraderie, you know, emphasis on health and wellness in the workplace, and really enjoying time with your colleagues outside of an office.”
She added that every year the event continues to grow, the energy gets better, and the people get more excited.

“I was told that the event is a sell-out; if you don’t register within the first few hours, you can’t get in. And I think that’s a reflection of the energy and the spirit and the enthusiasm that people bring to the corporate challenge each year.”
