Residents urged to share their views on the city’s proposed municipal tariff increases

Residents in Johannesburg have until May 18 to share comments on proposed increases to property rates, water, electricity and sanitation tariffs as part of the city’s public participation process.

DA in Johannesburg Shadow MMC for Finance and Ward 106 councillor Chris Santana is calling on residents of Johannesburg to participate in the city’s integrated development plan (IDP) process and share their views on the proposed municipal tariff increases before the submission deadline.

Speaking to the Sandton Chronicle on May 7, Santana encouraged residents to use the opportunity to influence future development projects and service delivery priorities in their communities.

“Residents, this is your opportunity to put your comments through and how you feel about those tariffs. It’s your comments that come through to the council that needs to be looked at before the finalisation of the budget. Please post what you feel is fair and reasonable.”

Residents can make their submissions online through the City of Johannesburg website. The deadline date for the submissions is May 18.
