Imbumba Foundation CEO completes successful mission to The Bahamas

Backed by international collaboration, the Imbumba Foundation is set to empower thousands of girls in The Bahamas through education and access to sanitary products.

The Imbumba Foundation, based in Sandton, announced the successful conclusion of an official visit to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas by its CEO Richard Mabaso.

This historic visit marked a significant milestone in the foundation’s global expansion, following a formal invitation from the British High Commissioner to The Bahamas, her excellency Smita Rossetti.
The visit centered on a strategic partnership to launch the foundation’s flagship menstrual hygiene programme, Caring4Girls Bahamas Chapter. This initiative is supported by a robust collaboration between the government of the United Kingdom and the Imbumba Foundation.

Earlier this year, the UK government’s foreign, commonwealth, and development office (FCDO) signed an accountable grant agreement with the foundation, providing critical funding for baseline or pre-project survey work on the island. The partnership is fully endorsed by the South African government, through the office of the South African Honorary Consulate to The Bahamas, Mr Werner Gruner.

“As a foundation, we are thrilled by these recent developments. We look forward to reaching more girls in the Caribbean region, while simultaneously growing our footprint on the continent and other parts of the world,” stated Mabaso.

He added that the mission to The Bahamas was built upon five primary pillars: Baseline needs analysis: Conducting thorough assessments to identify the most critical areas of need, Puberty education: Implementing comprehensive education on puberty and menstrual hygiene management, Sustainable supply: Providing free sanitary pads to adolescent girls across The Bahamas and the Family Islands, Local export: Facilitating the export of the foundation’s locally manufactured South African brand to the Bahamian market, and Monitoring and evaluation: Conducting regular baseline impact assessments to continuously inform and improve long-term sustainability.

Mabaso pointed out that over 13 years, the Caring4Girls programme has distributed more than 100 million sanitary pads, supporting over 3 million disadvantaged girls to remain in school during their monthly cycles. This new partnership aims to replicate this success, ensuring that period poverty is no longer a barrier to education for the youth of The Bahamas.
