Sandton is ranked highest for commercial crime in South Africa
The crime statistics for the fourth quarter of 2025/26 for Sandton Police Station reveal that the station is ranked number one on commercial crime in South Africa, despite recording a slight decrease in incidents.
Police Minister Firoz Cachalia, Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale, and Acting National Commissioner Puleng Dimpane announced the crime statistics for the fourth quarter of the 2025/26 financial year on May 22, covering the period from January to March 2026.
Sandton Police Station ranked number one, as in the worst in South Africa, for commercial crime, with reported cases decreasing from 471 to 464, making a 1.5% decline.
The stats also showed decreases in several categories of serious crime reported at Sandton Police Station.

Community-reported serious crimes dropped by 13.5%, decreasing from 1 536 to 1 329 cases, placing Sandton at number 24 nationally.
Other serious crimes also declined by 4.4%, from 863 to 825 cases. The theft not mentioned elsewhere category recorded a 10% decrease, dropping from 329 to 287 cases, while theft out of motor vehicles decreased from 57 to 48 incidents, reducing by nine counts and placing Sandton at number 29 nationally.

Some crime categories, however, showed notable increases. Common robbery cases rose from 78 to 81 incidents, an increase of 3.8%, positioning Sandton number 12 nationally for the crime category. Kidnapping cases also increased slightly, rising from three to four reported incidents, placing Sandton at number 25 nationally.
Shoplifting cases increased from 73 to 74, while sexual offences detected as a result of police action rose by 20%, increasing from 90 to 108 cases.
