Wynberg hole repairs near completion

Months after a pipe burst caused a road collapse outside businesses on 5th Street, officials say the final phase of repairs is now underway.

Businesses along 5th Street in Wynberg are finally seeing progress after months of disruption caused by a collapsed section of road.

The damage, caused by a burst storm water pipe, restricted access to businesses and prompted repeated calls for action from affected companies and local representatives.
According to Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart, 5th Street has been severely damaged since October last year. According to Johannesburg Roads Agency, repair work has now reached the final stages, and is expected to be completed by June 8.

Acting head of department for regional operations Mpho Maruping said the storm water infrastructure repairs have already been completed. “The storm water jobbing has been completed, and the team is busy with road base preparations for the reinstatement of tar that has been scheduled to be completed by June 8.”

The final stage of the project involves road surface reinstatement and tarring. “The reinstatement of tar is currently a work in progress.”

Maruping said the project remains on schedule, with businesses and motorists expected to regain normal access once work is completed. “The project will include the full reinstatement of the road surface, storm water infrastructure, and final tarring.”

Also, thankful for all the parties involved that assisted in getting this repair expedited. Thank you for your help and intervention in particular.”
