Crawford golfer continues on the path to victory

Crawford College Sandton’s very own Amilkar Bhana continues to reach new heights in his golfing career.

The young golfer shot a phenomenal round of six-under par 66 at CMR Golf Club on 18 October.

The stellar performance meant that Amilkar became the 7th Golf RSA National Squad member to not only win but also qualify for the chance to play in the North and South Junior Championship at Pinehurst Resort in America next year.

According to Amilkar, it feels great to just be back on the greens again. “It is a new experience to play under the Covid-19 rules, and I hope all of us will continue to abide by these rules and be responsible. I thoroughly enjoyed my round of golf and I am looking forward to the next round.”

He added that moments like these confirmed that all the time and dedication was worth it. “We [golfers] have a duty to do justice to our roles in the team. We will try to do our best and work hard at the game.”

According to Amilkar’s mother Amina, the young golfer remains truly honoured to have received continuous and unconditional support from the school, led by executive principal Morag Rees and school principal Tracey Purkiss, his family and friends.

“All of his achievements (national and international) to date are due to his endeavours and support given to him. He is humbled by the support given to him and he will forever be grateful to all those who walk with him on his journey,” said Amina.

For now, Amilkar has his sights set on the play-off for the championship. “I am happy to have the opportunity to compete at this level. I am aware that my fellow competitors are as keen as me to do our best,” he concluded.
