Brescia’s top fencer strikes again

BRYANSTON – Taking home a gold medal was a great reward for all the hard work that Isla Thomas has been putting in to improve her technique.

Brescia House athlete Isla Thomas continues to perform exceptionally in fencing.

The young athlete recently competed in the second Gauteng Schools Fencing League at the University of Pretoria where she won the gold in the U13 and bronze in the U15 girls’ categories.

According to Isla, it was fun to be competing again after such a long time. “I wasn’t feeling too nervous but more excited. I fenced well, my coach had given me advice to be more aggressive and decisive this tournament which worked well.”

She added that taking home the gold was a great reward for all the hard work that she had been putting in to improve her technique.

“I enjoy entering tournaments so I can put my skills that I have been taught into action. I enjoy working hard so I can win.”

In addition to fencing, Isla is also currently looking forward to competing in the South African Championships for biathle and triathle in George next month if lockdown regulations permit.
