Meet Daliso Ambali, a brilliant football player

Football star discusses five soccer player attributions required to be a great football player, as well as five talents his coach hinted at.

Joseph Daliso Ambali is a South African professional footballer who was born and raised in Johannesburg.

His parents are both Zambians.

He began playing football at the age of nine for Collins Mbesuma Football Club and later for Crusaders Football Club.

“I grew up participating in school tournaments at my primary school. I moved to Sandton side and I then joined the local club because I did not want to lose my interest in football,” said Ambali.

Daliso Ambali shared three attributes of a good soccer player:

Football techniques:

  • Ball mastery and control, dribbling and running with the ball, and body movements and shapes

Mindset:

  • Passion and drive, leadership, self-motivated, and coachability

Team player:

  • Being able to work with a team and contribute towards a winning mentality.

Ambali lists eight skills that Crusaders coach Lefate Makunyane instil in his players:

  • He gives players confidence
  • He is self-disciplined
  • Makes the players understand the culture of Crusaders FC
  • Winning mentality no matter what, on and off the field
  • He is able to point out players’ strength in the game
  • He shared with us a lot about being a pro at an earlier stage of our development years so it was easy for us to adapt to the pressure when we were finally in the senior side
  • Made us believe that only hard work can take us to the promised land, so he wants players who will work hard every day
  • He was a father figure more than a coach.
