Hockey takes centre stage at Morningside Country Club

Fans were treated to a day of non-stop matches as local teams battled it out with energy and determination.

The Morningside Country Club hosted a full day of hockey and fun on May 18, with the action starting bright and early as various teams took to the field.

One of the highlights of the day saw the club’s women’s team take on Pirates in a spirited encounter.

The players from both teams brought high energy to the turf and delivered a competitive and entertaining game for the fans.

Speaking after the match, Pirates hockey second team coach Jarryd Farrington shared his thoughts on the team’s performance.

“The overall performance was flat,” he said. “The team knows they are capable of better, and we showed some glimpses of that in the second chukka.

“We currently have several players ruled out through injury, so I am happy with how the team have stepped up with the absence of some key players.”

Farrington spoke about the broader goals of his role as coach.

“My job is to get the best out of the players for the success of the team, to develop young talent for promotion to our first XI, while still cultivating a culture that is synonymous with the Pirates’ spirit.”

Farrington highlighted that the team was training well, so if they kept the attendance numbers high at training, he was certain they would soon start seeing results that reflected their efforts.

He concluded with a motivational message about team mentality.
