In a momentous achievement in South African cricket history, the Proteas men celebrated their victory in the ICC World Test Championship 2025 Final against Australia with a jubilant gathering at Nelson Mandela Square on June 19, with the Mace in hand.

Their triumph at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, marked by a narrow 5-wicket win, was not only a testament to their skill and perseverance but also a reflection of the nation’s pride and unity.

Man of the Match Aiden Markram shared his thoughts on the historic win.

“The things we have done in the past few days have been special for us as a team. We are excited to share the bit of success we’ve had with the fans of South Africa. Nelson Mandela would be so proud,” Markram said.

MEC for Education Matome Chiloane delivered a powerful message on national pride and achievement. “This is what we are known for. We are a nation of winners. We’ve got the world champions here. We’ve got another set of world champions in quite a number of sports. There’s nothing that South Africans cannot achieve.

“What you have done might seem small because you’re on the pitch. You were playing, and it was you against the ball or you, the ball, and the batsman. But to us, it’s much more,” he added.

He emphasised that this victory symbolised hope, passion, development, and dreams fulfilled, inspiring young athletes across the country.

“Your path to greatness has already started. From here, we are taking it to the next level. The upcoming World Cup is ours to conquer. They used to call us jokers. They’re the ones who are joking now with disappointment.”
