Fitness meets friendship in Morningside Manor

From first-timers to seasoned athletes, locals are finding health, happiness, and connection on the leafy 5km route.

Every Saturday morning, Ernest Ullmann Park in Morningside Manor buzzes with life.

Locals laced up their shoes on September 20, setting off on the free, timed 5km Ernest Ullmann parkrun.

The appeal is simple: no entry fees, no pressure, and no barriers.

Walk, jog, or run; it’s about showing up.

First-timers, families, and athletes chasing personal bests all share the same leafy route through the park.

For event director Bernadette Phillips, the parkrun is about far more than fitness.

“It’s about people coming together, supporting one another, and celebrating the joy of being active in a safe and welcoming space.”
