In a closely contested encounter, St David’s Marist Inanda secured a narrow 21–19 victory after producing an improved second-half performance.

St David’s Marist Inanda coach Mzi Nyathi said the festival is playing an important role in developing players and helping younger boys adapt to the programme. Nyathi admitted his side was not fully satisfied with how they started the match, despite getting the result. “We are happy with the way the boys played in the second half, but concerned in terms of how we started in the first half.”

He added that there is a growing understanding within the group, and encouraged players to take ownership of their own improvement. “There’s clarity that’s coming into the programme, and the boys are taking care of themselves and learning. We say the boys must be responsible for their own growth.”

Despite the win, Nyathi said the players expected more from themselves. “The boys are a bit upset with themselves, even though they won, which means there’s a lot of care factor, which is awesome for us to know as coaches.”
