Katekani Moreku breaks into the fashion world with his Pick n Pay collaboration

Moreku, who was bursting with excitement at the launch in Sandton City on 7 October, said that he was extremely happy to be a part of this project.

Pick n Pay Clothing is putting their best foot forward and stepping out of the box. Having launched their latest collaboration project – Future Wear in August, their latest designer Katekani Moreku put an abstract and colourful twist on the clothes.

Teaming up with fashion designer Gavin Rajah, Pick n Pay will be giving talented designers a platform to showcase their work. Rajah said that this is a big project and he is happy to be part of it.

“Basically, I am fostering collaborations for Pick n Pay and this is one of the young designers called Katekani Moreku. Part of the Future Wear Project [is that] we are looking at new talent coming through in the country, new young designers and giving them opportunities,” said Rajah.

He added that the purpose of the collaboration is not just mentoring in fashion but looking at what mentoring means in a new context.

Moreku, who was bursting with excitement at the launch in Sandton City on 7 October, said that he was extremely happy to be a part of this project.

“Gavin is the one who discovered me, mentored me and then pointed me in the right direction. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I couldn’t be happier,” said Moreku.

Pushing boundaries, this collection captures his perspective of a united South African heritage.
