WOODMEAD – Two different worlds collide successfully through hip hop culture and sport.

The first annual Hip Hop Invitational golf day by Pop Bottles entertainment was held on 20 December at the Country Club Johannesburg in Woodmead.

Known for their extravagant outdoor events, the brand wanted an event that would be social distancing friendly while stepping out of their comfort zones.

“With all the restrictions we had to think of something cool and safe. For us golf courses were the first sports grounds to open when they allowed sports to be played again in the different levels. We thought golf would be good,” said DJ Dimplez of Pop Bottles.

Bringing two different worlds together, the merging of golf and the hip hop culture was a pleasant day of new experiences and new-found passions from the usual status quo.

Dimplez said he thought golf, especially in the north, was the perfect choice.

“DJ Milkshake is a member here [Country Club], he introduced us to the guys and the idea was born. I think it turned out well. There are a lot of people who play golf that came through, its very interesting. I think it’s something we can grow with and take it far for sure.”

On the greens too was the Best Drive team of YFM showing some of their skills. Host DJ Sabby thinks that he may have found a new hobby to start in the new year and sultry co-host Altovise Lawrence had a natural swing.

Lawrence said it was such an experience to see two worlds that wouldn’t normally co-exist, come together.

“We stop and drive-in, see the greens. Drive a little further and find there’s DJ’s playing on the decks. Drive in a little more and it’s all so serene. It was such a beautiful balance.”
The day ended off with some drinks at the pool to relax and prizes were given to all the winners.

Dimplez has already started making plans for 2021, so get your outfits ready but make it hip hop.
