Better Bryanston invites community to 5km and 10km fun run for World Cleanup Day
Residents are encouraged to swap their Sunday lie-ins for running shoes and support a fundraising drive aimed at keeping local streets clean.
Fitness enthusiasts are being encouraged to swap their Sunday morning lie-ins for running shoes as Better Bryanston hosts a community social run on September 20 in celebration of World Cleanup Day.
The 5km and 10km walk or run starts at Decathlon at 07:00, with residents of all ages and fitness levels invited to take part.
This event is part of Better Bryanston’s fundraising drive to support its ongoing efforts to keep the streets and public spaces of Bryanston clean.

Better Bryanston chairperson Joyce Tshabalala said the non-profit organisation is working with several ambassadors who have taken on the challenge of raising funds ahead of the event. She said the organisation hopes the event brings the community together while generating much-needed funds for its cleaning initiatives.
The campaign has raised R65 000 towards its R100 000 target.
Better Bryanston co-director Leonore Kruger said the ambassadors have done a “fantastic job” getting the campaign this far, but encouraged residents to help take the initiative over the finish line by participating.
Kruger said the entire Bryanston community is invited to join, regardless of whether participants choose to walk or run, with no entry fee charged.
“You can walk, you can run, you can crawl. We do not measure your time,” she said.

The event is designed as a relaxed social occasion rather than a competitive race, allowing participants to enjoy the morning while supporting a cause that directly affects their neighbourhood.
“The funds we’re raising will assist us to keep on cleaning Bryanston, and it will keep us going for quite a while,” Kruger said, adding that various prizes will be given away on the day.
