‘Ha Chota’ road to receive much-needed fixing

"Every road repaired is an investment in safer travel, reliable public transport, stronger local businesses, and the dignity of every resident who depends on quality public infrastructure."

SEBOKENG. – A vital stretch of road next to “Ha Chota” in Zone 6 is finally receiving much-needed repairs after years of neglect and severe sewage damage.

The road, which connects to Sebe Street in Zone 7, serves as a crucial daily transport route for local taxis, motorists, and residents. However, recent and persistent flooding caused debris and waste to block the local sewer network.

This blockage caused sewage to overflow through a nearby manhole, continuously flooding the area and severely damaging the road surface until it became unsafe and virtually impossible to use.

Following a personal site visit this week, the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), Hassan Mako, called for urgent action to address the situation.

We are here to make the lives of our people better.

After engagements between the mayor, the Roads and Stormwater Department, and Metsi-a-Lekoa, teams were mobilised to the site, and work to restore the road is now underway.

“No road, especially one that makes our people’s lives easier and better, should become unusable because of neglect or because we are waiting for solutions. We are here to make the lives of our people better,” said Mako.

He added that every road repaired is an investment in safer travel, reliable public transport, stronger local businesses, and the dignity of every resident who depends on quality public infrastructure.
